Dil Bechara Movie Review: A Story about How Love Can Fight Everything

A debut for Mukesh Chabra and Sanjana Sanghvi, but the last movie for Sushant Singh Rajput. This movie already had an emotional sentiment attached with it after the untimely death of the very talented actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It was released on an OTT platform (Disney+Hotstar) owing to the given circumstances around the world. The movie is based on the book “Fault in our stars” by John Green.

Synopsis:

The movie is a beautiful, intense story revolving around the lives of Kizie Basu and Manny who are both cancer patients. Manny has an artificial leg while Kizie needs the constant help of a oxygen cylinder due to her weak lungs which she lovingly calls Pushpinder. It is a touching story about how love can fight everything. Manny plays the character of a very positive boy who makes his deadly disease seem extremely mere and insignificant. He is a huge fan of the living legend Rajnikant and lives his live nothing less than a move. Kizie and Manny go through the same pain and understand each other, but love keeps them strong and helps them fight any obstacle that comes their way. Kizie really admires a singer Abhimanyu Veer and desperately wants to know the reason why he couldn’t complete one of her favourite songs, and before dying Manny makes sure he says goodbye and fulfills his promise of completing the song for her.

Review:

Sushant Singh Rajput yet again and unfortunately for the last time steals our heart with his stellar performance. He creates happiness in everyone’s hearts and lives and keeps the positive element of the movie going. Sanjana also gives a very good performance, she isn’t over the top and connects with her audience beautifully.

Other than the protagonists the supporting actors also give the movie and beautiful structure. Specially Manny’s best friend JP played by Sahil Vaid. He also suffers from cancer and eventually loses his eyesight.

The family bond portrayed is extremely modern and raw. The connection between Kizie and her parents is something that touches your heart.

The central theme of the movie revolves around fragility and how we look at the concepts of life and death, how knowing about our death can hamper our current experience and make our time even shorter. It teaches us to live life in the moment and not worry about what we have ahead of us.

The only thing that falls flat in the movie is depth, even in the way the characters fall in love. It is extremely outdated, how a boy continuously tries to flirt and impresses the girl, and the annoyance is considered cute and the reason why Kizie fell for Manny. There is not much depth to the idea of how the characters truly fell in love with each other.

Although the movie does not take us deep into the lives of the characters and is a portrayal of several episodes put together, it does its work of making the audience aware of the central theme and idea. It makes us hope for the love that the two have in the movie, they truly love each other till death do them apart. An emotional and romantic rollercoaster ride exploring bonds, relationship and friendship. Overall a movie that had a very touching and intense storyline in hand, but could have done more justice with it. It does bind different elements together but lacks a sense of depth and intensity. But nonetheless the actors should be praised and appreciated for a remarkable performance.
