What are the 8 supernatural powers (siddhis) of Lord Hanuman?

8 Siddhis of Lord Hanuman, also known as Ashta Siddhi. If a normal human understands all these eight powers with deep faith and passion, then no one can stop that person. It is said that it offers uncontrollable power to one by which that person can have control over everything, from the leaf of a plant to the whole universe. Usually, people are not aware of these eight Siddhis – only those who understand the Hindu scriptures.

These have been mentioned in the Hanuman Chalisa, where the line goes like this: “ASHTA SIDDHI NAV NIDHI KE DAATA,” which means devotion to Hanuman. Eight types of achievements and nine types of treasures are realized in a person’s life. Every Siddhi has its importance and quality, and being acknowledged for all of them is a master skill that gives immense power to one. Now let us learn with our whole hearts for 8 Siddhis to understand them in-depth.

ANIMA:

The first Siddhi. This Siddhi is involved in changing body shape. If someone masters it, then that person will be able to decrease the size of their body. So small that one becomes an atom, which is a basic fundamental unit, or even smaller in the form of a subatomic particle. However, this Siddhi only helps in reduction; one cannot increase their body size. Lord Hanuman used this ability to spy throughout Lanka while searching for Mother Sita, and it was one of his most famous uses.

MAHIMA:

Mahima, the second Siddhi, is a part of the first Siddhi Anima and is quite similar to it. In this way, the person who aces it can increase their body size, irrespective of anything. They can become enormous, and in this way, they cannot go back to their original body shape. To bring back the Sanjivani herb and lift the Sumeru Mountain to save Laxman’s life, Lord Hanuman used this Siddhi.

GARIMA:

The third Siddhi revolves around the body weight of a human. The one who understands it can increase their weight as much as they want. This Siddhi is pretty similar to Ahima. However, he or she cannot reduce their weight. Lord Hanuman told Pandava Bheem to lift his tail to check his ego when pretending to be an old monkey. However, Lord Hanuman used his divine power to make sure Bheem couldn’t lift his tail.

 LAGHIMA:

Just like Anima and Mahima, Garima and Laghima come up in pairs. This Siddhi gave the person the ability to reduce weight. By mastering this Siddhi, one can get the ability to fly as the weight becomes non-existent at a point. Lord Hanuman and many other gods, along with demons, could fly.

PRAPTI:

This Siddhi is slightly different from other Siddhis, as most of the Siddhis are more focused on the body. This Siddhi tends to focus outside the body. One can instantly get what one desires through the Prapti Siddhi. They have the power to create anything they want from scratch. It is said that the blessings of both God and demons are included in this Siddhi.

PRAKAMYA:

This Siddhi is probably what most humans wish for nowadays. This Siddhi had a bunch of abilities. One who masters it can teleport, increase their lifeline, and survive underwater too. It also helps one to adapt to any sort of situation. Many ancient sages, immortal beings, and gods back in the day had this ability to live underwater and extend their lives for crazy long times.

ISITVA:

The second last Siddhi, which is related to nature. The one who aces this Siddhi has all control over nature. He or she can control the flow of wind, the speed of the earth’s rotation, and when it rains. Different people have attained this Siddhi and used it in their own way, helping others and making their lives better.

VASITVA:

Now comes the final and last Siddhi, which is the most dangerous of all. If one attains this Siddhi, they will be able to take over someone else’s mind, and the fun fact is that this is not just applicable to humans; it applies to animals as well. This Siddhi can be used to help so many mentally ill people or animals who are suffering. With this power, Lord Vishnu could immediately calm down angry beings, be they creatures or people in different forms.
