Top 25 Bollywood Horror Movies Which You Shouldn’t Miss!

14. Bhoot (2003)

Vishal (Ajay Devgan), a stock analyst, and his wife Swati (Urmila Matondkar) is in search of a flat in Mumbai. Vishal finds the perfect place on the 12th floor of a high-rise apartment building. However, the apartment has a horrifying past. The previous occupant of the flat, a young woman, had killed her child and jumped from the balcony and died. Swati learns about this incident shortly after moving in and becomes oddly fixated on the story. Then, a series of inexplicable experiences drive Swati to near madness. Vishal becomes helpless and convinced his wife has developed some sort of psychological disorder. He consults a psychiatrist, Dr Rajan (Victor Banerjee). The couple’s maid (Seema Biswas) believes Swati to be possessed, and calls in an exorcist (Rekha). Meanwhile, other seemingly unrelated events take place around the building. The watchman (Sabeer Masani) is being terrorized, one of the residents Sanjay (Fardeen Khan) is behaving erratically, and a murder occurs.

15. Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)

When U.S.-based Siddharth visits his Indian hometown with his new wife, he insists they stay at the ancestral home, laughing off family members’ warnings of ghostly going on in the mansion. But some events soon make him reconsider his beliefs. As unexplained and terrifying occurrences arise, Siddharth calls on his doctor friend to help solve the mystery. What will be the outcome? Will Siddharth’s friend be able to solve this riddle?

16. 1920 (2008)

A devotee of Lord Hanuman, Arjun Singh Rathod is in love with Lisa, a Christian, who was sired by an Indian mother and Caucasian father. They run into problems with his father, who wants him to marry a Hindu. He decides to break all ties with his family, both turn atheist, get married, and re-locate to live in 1920s Bombay. The duo then re-locates to renovate a mansion in Palanpur. Shortly after their arrival, Lisa suspects that there is something odd about a room in the mansion but Arjun dismisses this. He will soon regret this, as well as forsaking their respective religions after he finds Lisa possessed by what appears to be a demonic and seemingly invincible male entity.

17. 13B (2009)

Manohar (Neetu Chandra) notices a few quirks in the building when he moves into 13B, such as the lift that works for others but not for him. It is strange, however, to discover that a TV show, “Yavarum Nalam,” is based on certain aspects of Manohar’s life — such as his wife (R. Madhavan) miscarrying. In researching the past tenants of 13B with the help of a cop friend, he discovers its murderous history. In addition, he explores his role in the apartment’s future.

18. Haunted – 3D (2011)

Delhi-based Rehan is instructed by his Realtor father to travel to Koti, near Shimla, and prepare to sell Billimoria-owned ‘Glen Manor’ to the Mittal family for Rs.200 Crores. Upon arrival, he disregards warnings from residents that the mansion is haunted by demons. Shortly thereafter he hears screams and inexplicable movement within the mansion. He then finds out that two entities have persisted in this mansion for 80 years. Rehan will soon find himself transported back to August 17, 1936, where he hopes to change the past.

20. Ragini MMS (2011)

The movie Ragini MMS is directed by Pawan Kripalani and produced by Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms. In addition to being inspired by the 2007 American supernatural horror film ‘Paranormal Activity, the story is partly based on the true story of a Delhi girl named Deepika. Ragini and Uday visit an abandoned house in a deserted area far away from the city to enjoy but unknowing they get trapped in the haunted house led by a murder victim’s spirit. In this movie, a couple spends a romantic weekend in a house that has hidden cameras that record everything they do.  Stunningly portrayed and acted, the Bollywood horror film will send chills up your spine.

21. Ek Thi Daayan (2013)

‘Ek Thi Daayan ‘, directed by Kannan Iyer, was a moderate box office success. Despite this, the story of this Bollywood horror movie is very engaging and seems very real. Kalki Koechlin, Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi and Konkona Sen Sharma star in the film. The 59th Filmfare Awards recognized Konkona Sen Sharma as the best-supporting actress for her performance. The story revolves around a Dayan (Witch) who sacrifices certain human beings to maintain their youthful powers. Bobo, a famous magician, plans to marry his girlfriend. A persistent hallucination of his sister forces him to seek psychiatric treatment despite his best efforts.

22. Horror Story (2013)

Ayush Raina directed Horror Story, which stars Ravish Desai, Hasan Zaidi, Karan Kundra, and others. The story is adapted from the short story ‘1408’ by Stephen King. The movie revolves around seven youngsters who stay in a haunted hotel for a night. The group meets to bid farewell to a friend who will be going abroad. The couple decides to spend the night in a haunted hotel, which transforms their lives in unexpected ways. As they realize they are not alone inside, what they initially thought to be mere rumours turns out to be the truth.

23. Stree (2018)

This Bollywood horror-comedy movie stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee in prominent roles. Thanks to an awesome storyline, great acting and flawless direction, it was a huge box office hit. This movie is based on a story in the Rayalaseema legend of the 80s titled Oh Stree Repu Ra (transl. Oh woman, come tomorrow) regarding a spirit who knocks on people’s doors at night. This horror story about a ghost that haunts the town during festivals will take you on a rollercoaster ride of fear and laughter that will leave you with unforgettable memories. 24. Tumbbad (2018)

Taking place in Tumbbad in the 1920s, the story centres on three generations of a family facing consequences when they build a temple for Hastar, a goddess whose firstborn cannot be worshipped. This terrible entity is capable of cursing a person while also granting gold coins. This story emphasizes human nature and the never-ending desire for wealth. According to mythology, Hastar was the result of the creation of the world by the Goddess of Prosperity who then gave birth to 16 crore Gods and Goddesses. Hastar was her firstborn and her favourite child, but he was very greedy. Hastar, who was offered all the gold in the world or all the food by the Goddess of Prosperity, tried to take the gold in a fight with his siblings and took the food as well. Hastar was overpowered by 16 crore gods and goddesses, but when they attempted to kill him, the Goddess of Prosperity intervened and begged for his life. Her request was granted, but on one condition, Hastar would not be mentioned in the Puranas nor would he ever be worshipped.

25. Bulbbul (2020)

A work of fresh content in the main field of Indian horror movies, Bulbul is directed and written by Anvita Dutt. A legit story featuring Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam, Rahul Bose and Parambrata Chattopadhyay in the lead roles is the primary attraction of Bulbul. A man returns home after years to find that his brother’s child bride has grown up and abandoned him, and that mysterious deaths have plagued his ancestral village. The child bride Bulbul grows up to become an enigmatic woman, ruling over the household and hiding her painful past, while supernatural murders of men plague her village.
