Choosing The Best Dental Implants For You

If you are unlucky enough to lose a tooth or teeth, then you will need to either wear dentures or choose the better option of having dental implants. Implants are much more robust and durable than dentures, and will not slip out of your mouth, no matter how chewy your food is. If you are contemplating having dental implants, there are some choices that you have available which are listed below.

Subperiosteal Implants:

Subperiosteal implants were once the most common type of dental implants, but they are used a lot less frequently today with the advent of new technologies and techniques. Subperiosteal implants were once used when a patient had a jawbone which was not big enough, and the metal implants were placed onto the jaw, and within the tissue of the gum. The metal peg sticks out of the gum and is where a set of dentures connect to the mouth, holding them firmly in place.

Endosteal Implants:

Most modern dentists will offer Endosteal implants. There are also plenty of choices available when it comes to cheap dental implants in Auckland. Endosteal implants are the most common ones available today, and even with these there are plenty f choices available. You can opt for endosteal implants that screw in, have a blade attached, or a cylinder. Choosing the best option for you will require some advice from your local dentist. They will be able to tell you which type of fastening system is going to be best, considering factors such as size of the jawbone, the density of the bone, and the number of implants required.

The first part of the process to install the implants is drilling into the jawbone and connected titanium rods to the jaw. These will then fuse to the jaw and replace the roots of the tooth, and gums will grow around the implants. The dentist will then attach the artificial teeth to the implants once the soft tissue has healed, and when the recovery process is complete, it is said to be the closest thing to having real teeth again.

Choosing Your Teeth:

With endosteal implants, you will have a choice when it comes to the type of material that you use for your replacement teeth. Many companies make a variety of dental implants, which means there are a lot of choices available when it comes to selecting artificial teeth that are a close match to yours. There are acid-etched teeth, teeth with a plasma-sprayed titanium surface, Zirconia, or a grit-blasted surface to name but a few. Your dentist will help you to choose which type of material will match your existing teeth best.

A Choice Of Connectors:

You will also have to decide which connectors to use to attach your teeth to the implants, and your dentist will be able to advise which may be best for your situation. You can choose either an internal or external hex connector, or an internal octagon connector, and your dentist will be able to advise you as to which is going to be best for you.
