What is the difference between Window & Split Air Conditioner?
Window AC: One unit
Window air conditioners are generally installed in the window of the room. It contains only one unit which contains all the components of the air conditioning unit including compressors, motors, connecting pipes and heat exchangers, and the entire air conditioning unit rests on a single base.
Split AC: Two Units
A Split AC is made up of two units, indoor unit, and outdoor unit. The indoor unit is installed in the room where you need cooling and the outdoor unit can be installed anywhere outside the room. A Copper tubing provides the connection between the indoor and outdoor unit.
One important thing to note here is that one outdoor unit can be connected to multiple indoor units. So, if you want two split ACs to be installed in two different rooms, individual indoor units can be installed in these rooms and one outdoor unit can be installed which can be connected to both of indoor units.
Which type of Air Conditioner should I choose?
There are various factors which should be taken care when deciding between window AC and split AC. Now you already know the difference between these two, let’s talk about factors to help you choose. The factors involved are noise level, installation cost, ease of installation and ease of service.
- In terms of low noise levels, Split AC is the winner as the outdoor unit (compressor unit responsible for the operating sounds) is installed outside the room.
- Window AC is more preferred when you look for low installation cost, ease of installation and ease of service.
- If you do not have a good place to install the outdoor unit, Split AC is the only option.
