1. The Zee Horror Show (1993)

Aired on: Zee TV

The blood curling Indian horror weekly was presented by Ramsay brothers telecasted on Zee TV. The first episode, entitled ‘Dastak’, was aired on 9 August 1993 featuring Pankaj Dheer, Sagufta Ali, and Archana Puran Singh. Initially, the show was a deal of 24 episodes with Subhash Chandra which later on ran for 9 years giving goosebumps to the viewers with the final episode aired in 2001. The spine chilling show made a total of 364 episodes and the maximum number of 11 episodes was aired in 1994 entitled ‘Saya’.

2.Ssshhh…..Koi Hai (2001)

Aired on: Star Plus

 

From haunted houses to ghosts and zombies, this Indian horror television anthology series fostered by Prem Kishen Malhotra, Sunil Mehta, and Abhimanyu Rai Singh for Star Plus. The terrifying series was premiered on 27 July 2001 giving shivers to the spine of viewers for three seasons ending on 16 May 2010. The star cast was a multicast featuring Divyanka Tripathi, Mouni Roy Rashami Desai, Gautam Rhode, Shakti Anand in trepidation series of 393 episodes in total. Cinevistas Limited won the Indian Telly Jury Award for Best Special/Visual Effects on Television in 2002 and 2003.

3.Aahat (1998)

Aired on: Sony Entertainment Television

 

The one among the bone-chilling horror compendium that trundles people experiencing paranormal activities, supernatural elements, and frightening entities leaving viewers petrified, was created by B.P. Singh. The thriller series was premiered on 5 October 1995 on Sony Entertainment Television. The first episode entitled ‘Abhinetri’, aired in 1998, generated a very high TRP for the show. The show became so popular among the Indian viewers that it ran for 6 seasons completing 556 episodes in total and ended on 4 August 2015 leaving the fans numb. The name, Aahat, means ‘an approaching sound’ featuring a star cast of Om Puri, Mandira Bedi, Tom Alter, Ashutosh Rana, Virender Saxena making it a successful show.

4. Fear Files (2012)

Aired on: Zee TV

 

The weekly thriller ‘Fear Files: Darr ki Sacchi Tasvirien’, was a string of episodes based on supernatural inspired by real-life incidents exploring all paranormal phenomena surpassing ghosts and witches. The first episode was aired on 30 June 2012 on Zee TV created by Cantoile Entertainment, Dreamzz Images and Essel Vision Productions featuring 3 seasons with a total of 358 episodes. The last episode was telecasted on 10 February 2019. It was a multicast heartbeat raising show.

5. Haunted Nights (2012)

Aired on: Sahara One

 

The fear-stricken fictional horror series was premiered on Sahara One from 20 February 2012. This show was directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by The Entertainment Hub. A total of 465 episodes were telecasted with 29 November 2013 marking the last episode. Almost every series contained 5 episodes starring Rashami Desai, Shilpa Shaklani, Manini Mishra, Sakshi Tanwar, Manish Gandhi, and Nivin Ramani.

6. Mano Ya Na Mano (2006)

Aired on: Star One

 

A reality show on Indian television based on paranormal activity, spirituality, and metaphysics comprising various unbelievable facts and real incidents around the sub-continent. It was directed by Antra Kak, Yogesh Raut, Ravi Davala, and Rajesh Ranshinge,  and presented by Lt. Irrfan Khan and Mishal Raheja. The heart ripping series ran for 2 seasons completing 102 episodes started in 2006 with a positive response from viewers, overall.

7. Darr Sabko Lagta Hai (2015)

Aired on: &TV

 

Indian fiction thriller presented by Bipasha Basu, narrating stories and incidents based on supernatural phenomena,  paranormal activities, and the advent of ghosts and spirits, was created by Raj DK. The first episode was premiered on 31 October 2015 on &TV. The series aired on every Saturday and Sunday nights undertaking terrifying aspects of paranormal activity such as ghosts, zombies, phantoms,  undead persons, witches, and wizards. The show completed 2 seasons successfully with a total of 49 episodes with the last episode aired on 17 April 2016.

8. X Zone (1998)

Aired on: Zee TV

 

A bold thriller of Indian television aired on every Monday night on Zee TV from 8 June 1998 to 330 October 2000. The Indian version of X Files was directed by Anurag Basu, Ramsay Brothers, Vivek Agnihotri, and Ketan Mehta. This show comprised elements of horror giving chills down the spine of the viewers and completed a season with a total of 126 episodes successfully.

9. Anhoniyon Ka Andhera (2011)

Aired on: Colors TV

 

A season of horror packed episodes narrating a story of a family with fear-stricken, horrifying experiences with the dark world, ghosts, and spirits. Written by Vikram Bhatt starring Anita Hassanandani and Ajay Chaudhary telecasting a total of 18 episodes on Colors TV. The first episode aired on 26 February 2011 and with the episode on 9 July 2011, marking a panic-stricken successful end to the viewers.

10. Raat Hone Ko Hai (2004)

Aired on: Colors TV

 

The Indian thriller,  recipient of the Indian Telly Award for the Best Horror Programme of the Year. Flashback of some of the heart-ripping, horrifying stories, which have left an impact on the lives of people rendezvous supernatural powers. Directed by B.P. Singh, the first episode was premiered on Sahara Manoranjan on 10 May 2004 on Colors TV. After a bang on series of 18 episodes, the one aired on 9 July 2011, marked the successful end Of the show.

11. Achanak 37 Saal Baad (2002)

Aired on: Sony Entertainment Television

 

The  one among the horror shows provided by the Indian television was created by B.P. Singh and Pradeep Uppoor, directed by Mukul Abhavankar.  The show was a psychological thriller based on the mystery of supernatural, the first episode of which aired on 22 March 2002. The tenor of the show was the small town of Gahota, which adroit paranormal activities after each cycle of 37 years. The show completed 197 episodes in total starring Rahil Azam, Faraaz Khan,  Iravati Harshe, Ashka Goradia, and Sunita Rajwar.  The show made a big impact for Indian viewers to scare themselves won the Indian Telly Award for the Best Horror  Programme of the year in 2003.

12. Tantra (2018)

‘Tantra’ means Black Magic. The thriller supernatural television series based on black magic was aired on 3 December 2018 on Colors TV. It was directed by Rajesh Ranshinge and created by Swastik Productions. The story trundled around a family fallen prey to the clutches of an evil incantation. The popular series ran for a season completing 91 episodes successfully. The last episode aired on 5 April 2019 featuring Juhi Parmar, Manish Goel, Sargun Kaur Luthra, and Sameksha.

13. Kavach…Kaali Shaktiyon Se (2016)

Kavach stands for the shield, a supernatural thrilling horror drama television series aired on Colors TV. The show comprised of a backpack of supernatural fantasy, thriller, horror along with drama premiered on 11 June 2016. The story hinged on Savitri-Satyavan’s story. It was directed by Santram Varma and Ranjan Kumar Singh. The show ran for 2 seasons and the second season was titled ‘Kavach…..Mahashivratri’. The total episodes of both the seasons were 47 and 42 respectively. Season 1 starred Mona Singh, Vivek Dahiya, and Sara Khan while season 2 featured Deepika Singh, Namik Paul, and Vin Rana. The last episode was aired on 27 October 2019.

14. Kaun Hai? (2018)

Kaun Hai, the Indian horror thriller show was a portrayal of paranormal and horrifying, panic-stricken incidents embroiling ghosts, evil entities, and black magic venerated by people. This anthology was created by Abhimanyu Singh, produced by Contiloe Pictures premiered on 29 June 2018 on Colors TV. The show ran for 2 seasons and ended in the same year on 14 October. Season 1 rattles real fear experienced by people while season 2 commenced with a battle of Daityas and the Puranas as the Daityas wanted to open the door to hell and take the mystery knife to kill the Puranas. The show featured Ashish Dixit, Neetha Shetty, Ishita Dutta, and Paras Kalnawat.
