How To Start A Blog in 2023 – The Complete Guide

Step 5: Choose the best topic for your blog

At this point in time, it is the best time to decide the main theme/topic of your blog. You need to choose a topic that is profitable and one that you can write passionately every day. As a blogger, you need to choose a topic that will be helpful for thousands of people. In addition, you need to make sure that people would be ready to pay for the services/products that you offer on your website. The products suggested are consistent with your website content in order to make it more effective. If you need to make money from your blog, you need to offer something valuable to your readers. Some examples of blog niches include blogging, health, and fitness, travel, sports, etc. You can go deeper into a niche and focus only on a single topic instead of general ones. For example, if you are passionate about cricket then your blog can focus only on cricket instead of sports in general.

Some people have special expertise in a field such as software, hacking, cooking, etc. My expertise is blogging and SEO; hence, I have chosen this topic to be my blog’s main topic. Write about topics that you have acquired certification or spend several years of your life to gain expertise.

Write a list of topics that you are passionate about. Make a list of topics on which you consider yourself an expert. Compare both the list and find out if there is a common topic in both. Choose the common topic as the focus subject of your blog. Choose the topic wisely, because you need to write regular content on that topic. You should be able to create fresh content five or ten years from now, on the chosen topic without getting bored and having writer’s block frequently. Once you have finalized your niche, do not think about it again. After deciding on your blog niche, it is time to write your first blog post.

Step 6: Write your first blog post

You have not started your journey into blogging until you have written your first blog post. At this point of time, it is necessary to understand the difference between posts and pages.

Posts:

Posts are the main content of any blog. They are arranged reverse chronological order i.e. the newer posts appear first on your blog followed by the old ones. Bloggers update blog post section more frequently as compared to other sections of the blog.

Pages:

Pages are static in nature. The content on the pages does not change much over a period. An example of a page would be About Me or Contact page of a website. A website without blog posts and containing static pages is a static website.

It is important to keep the target keywords in mind before writing a blog post. Write a catchy headline, the headline must include the target keyword. Gather the ideas for the blog post. Arrange them in a sequential order. The introduction must be compelling enough to make the readers continue after reading the introductory paragraph. The readers have an attention span of fewer than 15 seconds; you have to grab their attention in the first 15 seconds of their visit. Make subheadings from the central idea of the blog post and add two to three paragraphs under each subheading. A standard blog post should be between 500 – 1000 words long. Share your own opinion to make it better. Categorize each post; uncategorized posts are a big no-no for any blog.

Following the above suggestions, you can write your first blog post. Your actual work starts only after you have published your first blog post.

Next Steps involve growing your blog and building a brand name for yourself that can take several months to achieve.
